Translation and legalization of documents

Translations of documents

Consular offices do not perform translations. It is generally up to users to make their own arrangements for translating documents of interest to them.

The Consular Office, however, provides certification that translations of vital records and various other documents conform to the originals.

For a non-mandatory list of translators and interpreters you can contact in the Addis Ababa area, click here. These are reference Professionals that users may refer to in case of need, bearing in mind that anyone may also refer to other professionals they trust who are not on the list.

The Embassy is not responsible for the quality of service provided by the listed professionals, their work or the rates charged.

Legalization of Documents

In order to be valid in Ethiopia, a certificate issued by an Italian Authority first requires legalisation by the competent Prefecture and subsequent legalisation by the Embassy of Ethiopia in Rome. The Consulate will proceed to authenticate the translation of the duly legalised original.

For the legalisation of certificates issued by Ethiopian Authorities, please visit the dedicated page.
