If you are an Italian citizen and find yourself in a difficult situation while abroad, the competent consular office can, at your request, intervene on your behalf.
Possible interventions include:

- assistance through welfare agencies and associations (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- healthcare (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- legal assistance (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- assistance in case of theft or loss of documents (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- assistance in the search for compatriots (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- consular repatriation (external link to the dedicated page on the Italian MoFA website)
- repatriation of mortal remains
- repatriation for medical reasons
Under current regulations, the consular office may also provide assistance to European Union’s citizens if the Member State of citizenship has no Embassy, Consulate or Honorary Consul in that country.
