Short term visa

Tourism visa

The following documents (both in original and one copy) have to be provided by the applicant:

  1. A Schengen Visa application form, duly filled-in and signed.  The application form can be downloaded from the dedicated page (pursuant to Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/1341 of 29 April 2024, suspending certain articles of the Visa Code for Ethiopian citizens, please note that it is necessary to submit the visa application and all supporting documentation having in mind that the standard timeline for processing the application is 45 days. Therefore, users are strongly recommended to submit the application taking into account the aforementioned timeline);
  2. One recent colour passport-sized photograph (3.5 cm x 4.0 cm), with a bright background;
  3. Valid passport or travel document with a validity of at least three months after the end of the intended departure of Schengen area with at least 2 blank pages as well as a copy of all pages containing personal data of the applicant;
  4. Evidence of previous stays in the Schengen- area (old visas) if applicable;
  5. Fees of EUR 90.- (payable in ETB at the Embassy’s exchange rate at the time of the application) which in case of refusal of the visa application will not be refunded;
  6. A health insurance policy valid for all Schengen states for the duration of the intended stay, plus 15 days of grace period covering a minimum of EUR 30,000.-;
  7. Hotel reservation for the entire length of the stay, or a declaration of hospitality from an Italian citizen or foreigners legally residing in Italy, using the template downloadable from the dedicated page;
  8. Flight reservation (round-trip);
  9. In case of self-employed businessman: evidence of professional status of the applicant, i.e. business licence (if in Amharic, a translation into English is required) and bank statements of at least the last three months in correlation with the business licence;
  10. In case of employees: letter of support by the employer regarding the position, monthly income, annual leave entitlement, future employment and stating the purpose of travel to the Schengen area (original and one copy);
  11. Evidence of financial status and rootedness in Ethiopia of the applicant: i.e. property deeds, bank statements of at least the last three months, etc (original and one copy);
  12. Evidence of personal rootedness in Ethiopia, i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate/s of child/children verified by Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (original and one copy);
  13. Digital finger prints of all ten fingers will be taken at the time of the application.

Note: In some cases, the Embassy reserves the right to request further documentation.

 


Business visa

The following documents (both in original and one copy) have to be provided by the applicant:

  1. A Schengen Visa application form, duly filled-in and signed.  The application form can be downloaded from the dedicated page (pursuant to Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/1341 of 29 April 2024, suspending certain articles of the Visa Code for Ethiopian citizens, please note that it is necessary to submit the visa application and all supporting documentation having in mind that the standard timeline for processing the application is 45 days. Therefore, users are strongly recommended to submit the application taking into account the aforementioned timeline);
  2. One recent colour passport-sized photograph (3.5 cm x 4.0 cm), with a bright background;
  3. Valid passport or travel document with a validity of at least three months after the end of the intended departure of Schengen area with at least 2 blank pages as well as a copy of all pages containing personal data of the applicant;
  4. Evidence of previous stays in the Schengen- area (old visas) if applicable;
  5. Fees of EUR 90.- (payable in ETB at the Embassy’s exchange rate at the time of the application) which in case of refusal of the visa application will not be refunded;
  6. A health insurance policy valid for all Schengen states for the duration of the intended stay, plus 15 days of grace period covering a minimum of EUR 30,000.-;
  7. The letter of invitation from an Italian Company, will have to be submitted by the applicant to the Visa Office, together with a confirming declaration letter from the Employer, justifying the necessity to travel
    IMPORTANT! Please note that, in order to be valid, the “letter of invitation” must:

    • be originated by a firm active in the manufacturing industry legally operating in Italy and registered in one of the national associations or confederations represented by CNEL (www.cnel.it);
    • specify period and validity of the requested visa, aim of the journey, commitment of the inviting firm to fulfill all legal duties linked with social security and insurances;
    • mention the awareness of the penal responsibilities arising from “art. 12 del TU 286/1998 in materia di favoreggiamento all’immigrazione illegale” (penal responsibilities for abetting illegal immigration).
  8. Hotel reservation for the entire length of the visit, or an invitation letter by a friend, relative etc;
  9. Flight reservation (round-trip);
  10. In case of self-employed businessman: Evidence of professional status of the applicant, ie business licence (if in Amharic, a translation into English is required) and bank statements of at least the last six months in correlation with the business licence;
  11. In case of employees: letter of support by the employer regarding the position, monthly income, annual leave entitlement, future employment and stating the purpose of travel to the Schengen area (original and one copy), a declaration letter from the Employer confirming that the trip is part of a Business trip with the inviting Italian Company;
  12. Evidence of financial status and rootedness in Ethiopia of the applicant: i.e. property deeds, bank statements of at least the last three months, etc. (original and one copy);
  13. Evidence of personal rootedness in Ethiopia, i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate/s of child/ren verified by Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (original and one copy);
  14. Digital finger prints of all ten fingers will be taken at the time of the application.

Sport visa

The following documents (both in original and one copy) have to be provided by the applicant:

  1.   11. An invitation from the organizers of the sport event, stating both the financial conditions of invitation (with clear information on who is covering the costs) and the authorization of CONI (Italian Olympic Committee). The invitation will have to be sent from Italy to the Visa Office (visa.addisabeba@esteri.it) prior to the applicant’s  appointment;
  12. Supporting letter from the relevant sport federation and/or association;
  13. Digital finger prints of all ten fingers will be taken at the time of the application.

Medical visa

The following documents (both in original and one copy) have to be provided by the applicant:

  1. A Schengen Visa application form, duly filled-in and signed.  The application form can be downloaded from the dedicated page (pursuant to Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/1341 of 29 April 2024, suspending certain articles of the Visa Code for Ethiopian citizens, please note that it is necessary to submit the visa application and all supporting documentation having in mind that the standard timeline for processing the application is 45 days. Therefore, users are strongly recommended to submit the application taking into account the aforementioned timeline);
  2. One recent colour passport-sized photograph (3.5 cm x 4.0 cm), with a bright background;
  3. Valid passport or travel document with a validity of at least three months after the end of the intended departure of Schengen area with at least 2 blank pages as well as a copy of all pages containing personal data of the applicant;
  4. Evidence of previous stays in the Schengen- area (old visas) if applicable;

  8. Accompanying Travelers must have an health insurance policy valid for all Schengen States for the duration of the intended stay, plus 15 days of grace period covering a minimum of EUR 30,000.-;
  9. In case of self-employed businessman: Evidence of professional status of the applicant, ie business licence (if in Amharic, a translation into English is required) and bank statements of at least the last three months in correlation with the business licence;

  13. Certification confirming the pathology;
  14. Evaluation by the physician and/or local hospital facility treating the patient;
  15. Confirmation of the Hospital/Doctor in Italy or the intended institution for treatment that space is available for treatment, confirmation of appointment for treatment, stating the estimated duration and costs of stay (original and one copy);
  16. Proof of advanced payment of 30% of the total cost. This confirmation will have to be sent directly to the Visa Office (visa.addisabeba@esteri.it) prior to the applicant’s appointment;
  17. Proof of financial means if the costs will be borne by the patient himself. If the patient is not covering the costs himself (declaration of assumption of cost of the body offering treatment or another or private individual (original and one copy);
  18. Digital finger prints of all ten fingers will be taken at the time of the application.

Official visa

The following documents (both in original and one copy) have to be provided by the applicant:

  1.   8. Official invitation from the organization to be visited. This confirmation by inviting organization will also have to be sent directly to the Visa Office (visa.addisabeba@esteri.it) prior to the applicant’s appointment;
  9. Digital finger prints of all ten fingers will be taken at the time of the application.
