G20 Summit 2021 (Rome, October 30-31). Temporary reintroduction of controls at national internal borders

The Italian Ministry of Interior announced that on the occasion of the G20 Summit 2021 (Rome, October 30-31) will be temporarily restored internal border controls within the Schengen Area, at land, air and sea entry points in our country. The suspension of the ordinary regime of freedom of movement within the Schengen Area is activated in application of Article 28 of the Schengen Borders Code (EU Regulation 2016/399 of 9 March 2016).

This is a measure adopted by established practice by the Schengen States on the occasion of similar events.

The reintroduction of border controls will take place from 22:00 on October 27 to 13:00 on November 1, 2021.

The measure may have a significant impact on the travel time of third country nationals entering the Schengen area from another member state and then heading to our country.
