The legendary Ethiopian artist and father of the “Ethio-Jazz”, Dr. Mulatu Astatke, received a prestigious award from the Italian Government, in light of his renowned and successful carrier and for the excellent and strong connections he managed to build with Italian artists, festivals and public.
Ambassador Giuseppe Mistretta awarded Dr. Mulatu during a ceremony held on Friday 14 October at the African Jazz Village, at the presence of many guests from the Ethiopian Government, Diplomatic community and various artists and friends.
The award conferred to Dr. Mulatu is called “Ordine della Stella d’Italia”. This award, which qualifies as one of the most important civilian honors of the Italian Republic, represents a special certificate in favor of those who acquired singular merits in the promotion of relations of friendship and cooperation between Italy and other countries. It is assigned by the President of the Republic of Italy, on a proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
