Equipment Provision for 60 Newly Established Business Partnership in Tigray Region Equipment Provision for 60 Newly Established Business Partnership in Tigray Region

On 21 August 2020, SINCE Tigray project has handed over various equipment to Tigray Small and Micro Enterprise Bureau to be utilized by the 60 SINCE Tigray newly established Business Partnerships. The ceremony took place at Mekelle Zonal Administration office in the presence of some representatives from different government office officials with COVID- 19 pandemic preventive measures.

Through SINCE Tigray project, 1,463 vulnerable unemployed youth and women potential irregular migrants attended short technical training and 491 of them, after receiving additional training in business development, have been supported through Business Partnerships establishment. 60 Business Partnerships have been registered and licensed to operate in metal work and construction sectors thanks to the effort of the local authorities who provided them working shade and market linkages support.

On 19 June 2020, SINCE Tigray – DEAL project team – has organized an online workshop on the “Effectiveness of the Work-Based Learning (WBL)”. The presentation was prepared by the consultant who presented a study carried on SINCE Lot -5 medium and large industries engaged in the apprenticeship programme. The on line workshop was attended by 17 representatives from the Italian Embassy, UNIDO, ILO, and all SINCE implementing partners and it was a good opportunity for sharing experiences and get best lessons for future interventions.

On 23 October 2019, at Zemaria hotel in Mekelle SINCE Tigray organized a validation workshop on the research study produced by the University of Mekelle team on decent work and organizational practices affecting women’s employment in the manufacturing sector. The workshop was attended by 55 (39M, 16F) people from public offices and TVET institutions and SINCE Tigray implementing partners representatives to discuss about the research findings and recommendations.

 

Protect the Youth from the Risks of Irregular Migration Protect the Youth from the Risks of Irregular Migration

On 5 July 2019, in Wukro, the SINCE Tigray team conducted one awareness raising event entitled “Protect the Youth from the Risks of Irregular Migration”. The awareness creation programme was organized through a theatre art performance attended by general public form Wukro, especially young people, and local offices.
The show got a full local media coverage on Tigray television, Demts Weyane Television and Radio Fana.

SINCE Tigray Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting SINCE Tigray Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting

On 17 April 2019, at Mekelle SINCE Tigray Office, was conducted a Regional Project Steering Committee meeting aimed at strengthening the role of the SINCE Tigray signatory bureaus and discuss on the strategic direction in the project activities implementation. Representatives from all the 6 involved bureau, BoLSA, TVET, Medium Manufacturing Development Agency, Tigray MSEs, Tigray bureau of Plan and Finance, Embassy of Italy and UNIDO participated to the meeting.  In the same day a monthly project technical working group meeting was facilitated among all project partners to discuss on the next period implementation plan.
